So you’ve landed an interview for that dream job you’ve always wanted… What now? Before you sit down face-to-face with your new potential employer to go through the basic interview questions, there are a number of steps you can take to ensure you have a successful interview and therefore increase your chances of landing the job.

First, do your research prior to the interview.

Get to know the company you want to work for. Go on the company’s social media platforms as well as their website and their LinkedIn page. Learn the company’s mission statement. By having this information at your disposal, your hiring manager will see that you’re serious about the job and that you’re a dedicated professional.

Arrive early.

This is HUGE. You only get one chance to make a first impression. You don’t want to waste that opportunity by being in a rush and arriving right on time or even worse, showing up late. Arrive at least 30 minutes early, that will give you ample time to find parking and get situated in the lobby.

Be confident.

During your interview, the hiring manager will not only be analyzing your responses, he or she will be analyzing your body language as well. Sit up straight. Don’t slouch or look down while you’re in the interview. Be relaxed as well. You got this! If you’ve made it this far, it’s because your potential employer saw something in you that sparked their desire to bring you into their office.

Finally, send a thank you note afterward.

Let the hiring manager know that you appreciate the fact that they took time out of their busy schedule to set aside time for you. They’ll also be happy to know that you’re excited about the potential opportunity you may have to make a positive impact on their organization.

Follow these steps and you will undoubtedly have a successful interview. The initial interview is your opportunity to market yourself and highlight all of the reasons why you are the right person for the job. Don’t allow little mishaps to squander this opportunity. Be prepared, be confident and be professional. Sounds easy, right?
